Marina McPherson

Lyrics of popular music inspire designs of music icons. Vibrant and metallic threads bring figures to life with poignant statements of the world around us.
This body of work is inspired by Marinas' past employment of Domestic Drudgery. “I want to break free” speaks of her determination to be a full time artist. Creativity, sewing and daily connections are critical to her well-being as she endeavours to hone her skills and produce these delightful works.

These are my worlds all that come from dreams, my subconscious mind is revealed to me through my art practice, and it is a language in itself. These worlds communicate deep archetypes that are universal.
Animals are used to represent my inner world, my demons, my inner fears, by making them more friendly. It is easier to relate and connect with them and to make alliances with these fears. In the last 5-8 years she has refined her skills in embroidery and creates astonishing work with vibrant thread and whimsical figures often of pop-stars and their lyrics, complimented by flamboyant floral designs to enhance her hand drawn compositions.
